Former player Cedric Roussel passed away suddenly on Saturday afternoon, and Belgium is mourning his loss.

According to local press, the 45-year-old had a heart attack in Belgium as he was relaxing on a patio at a market in the city of Mons.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene right away, but Roussel tragically died.

During a lengthy career in the game, Roussel, who was three times capped by his nation in 2003, played for clubs including Coventry and Wolves in England.

He had 22 goals in the Jupiler Pro League in 2003 while playing for Mons, making him the league’s leading scorer.

He started a career in real estate after retiring in 2015, but at age 45, his passing was reported.

Belgium took the lead in paying respects on Twitter by writing: “We send our condolences to the family and friends of Cedric Roussel” and attaching a picture of him representing his nation.

‘Coventry City are profoundly grieved to learn of the loss of our former striker Cedric Roussel, at the age of just 45,’ read a statement from the club where Roussel had a brief but productive relationship with Robbie Keane.

Between 1999 and 2001, Cedric appeared in 43 games for the Sky Blues and scored 11 goals.
