Mia Fernandez Edith Falco (born July 5, 1963) is an actress from the United States. She is best recognized for her roles as Carmela Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos (1999-2007) and Nurse Jackie Peyton on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie (2009–2015). She also played Diane Whittlesey in HBO’s Oz, a prison drama (1997–2000).
She starred as Sylvia Wittel in the web comedy Horace and Pete in 2016. She starred as defense attorney Leslie Abramson in the inaugural season of the true crime anthology series Law & Order True Crime in 2017. Falco’s filmography includes major parts in Laws of Gravity (1992), for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead, and Judy Berlin (1999), as well as supporting appearances in Sunshine State (2002), Freedomland (2006), and The Comedian (2007). (2016). She was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in the 2011 Broadway revival of The House of Blue Leaves. Falco has won two Golden Globes (out of eleven nominations) and four Emmys (out of fourteen nominations), all for individual performances.

Falco practices Buddhism. In 2005, she adopted a boy, and in 2008, she adopted a daughter. She is a vegan who has collaborated with PETA on initiatives such as a public service announcement asking parents to keep their children away from the circus. According to Parade magazine, “I feel that cruelty to animals is at the root of all that is wrong in society. If you have little respect for any form of life, it will show in more blatant ways.”
