A high-speed collision on Highway 210 near Maxwell, Iowa, has left one person dead. Duane Sievert, a 51-year-old man from Maxwell, was driving east on the highway on Wednesday evening when he was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling at approximately 130 miles per hour.

The impact of the collision caused Sievert’s vehicle to crash into a ditch and catch fire.

According to court records, Sievert was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol responded to the incident and reported that the driver of the other vehicle was transferred to the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for assessment. While the crash report did not mention any injuries, police took a blood sample from the driver to calculate their blood alcohol content at the time of the accident.

A criminal complaint has been filed against the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision. According to the complaint, a state trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the driver on Highway 69 north of Alleman.

The driver was reportedly traveling at 93 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone and failed to stop at a sign before continuing to drive at unsafe speeds. Despite numerous warnings to slow down or stop, the driver continued to drive east on Highway 210, where the collision occurred.
