Pope Francis, who was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, is the leader of the Catholic Church, the Roman Catholic Bishop, and the ruler of the State of Vatican City.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born in the Flores neighbourhood of Buenos Aires on December 17, 1936. He was the oldest of Mario José Bergoglio’s (1908–1959) and Regina Mara Svori’s five children (1911–1981).
