Peter Bogdanovich never married his third wife at his death on 6 January 2022. 

He passed away of natural causes at his Los Angeles home.

Peter was born to Herma and Borislav Bogdanovich on 30 July 1939 in Kingston, New York. His mother, a Jewish of Austrian origin, was a pianist, while his father, a Serbian Orthodox Christian, was a Serbian painter. 

In 1957, the actor graduated from Collegiate School and later studied acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory. He began his career in the early 1960s as a film critic. Then he eventually worked on Roger Corman’s The Wild Angels (1966). After that, he directed his movie, Targets (1968). 

Likewise, Peter’s critically acclaimed drama The Last Picture Show (1972) was a big hit that earned eight Academy Awards nominations. Similarly, he directed several other box office successes, including What’s Up, Doc? (1972), Paper Moon (1973), and Daisy Miller (1974).

After that, he went on a three-year hiatus and only made his comeback in 1979 with Saint Jack. Furthermore, he took another four-year break due to the murder of his girlfriend, Dorothy Stratten. He made his return with a commercial monster Mask (1985). 

Besides directing, Peter was also a successful actor known for The Sopranos and The Other Side of the Wind (2018). 

As a successful film historian, he was behind documentaries, including Directed by John Ford and The Great Buster. Whatsmore, he published over ten books.

His long career saw many awards, including the 2009 Grammy and 1973 BAFTA Awards. Similarly, he had multiple Oscar nominations in 1972.

Peter continues to live through his daughters, Antonia Bogdanovich and Sashy Bogdanovich, and grandchildren, Maceo, Levi, and Wyatt.

Peter Bogdanovich’s ex-wives are Louise Stratten, actress and producer, and Polly Platt, producer and production designer.

He married his first spouse, Polly, in June 1962 but divorced in 1972. The couple shared two children, Antonia and Sashy. On 27 July 2011 in Brooklyn, she died due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Peter then married his second wife in 1988. This marriage also ended up in divorce after three years. 

Besides his wives, he had a few affairs. From 1971 to 1978, he dated Cybill Shepherd, an actress. Reportedly, he was also in a realtionship with Louise’s sister, Dorothy Stratten, Playboy Playmate and actress. She died on 14 August 1980.
