During the 2005 season, Charl Schwartzel won the Dunhill Championship, a major South African tournament co-sanctioned by the European Tour, and finished first on the Sunshine Tour’s Order of Merit. He finished 52nd on the European Tour’s Order of Merit in 2005, and he led the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit again in 2005-2006.

His victory in the season-ending Vodacom Tour Championship catapulted him into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time. In 2006, his form continued to improve, and he completed the season 18th on the Order of Merit and as high as 55th in the World Rankings.
