Carl Lumbly began his acting career as Detective Marcus Petrie in the long-running TV series Cagney & Lacey (1982-1988), alongside Martin Kove’s Detective Victor Isbecki. Lumbly debuted as Theseus in The Gospel At Colonus, an unusual musical version of the Oedipus legend that aired on PBS’ Great Performances series in 1985.
