Brent Renard was an American journalist an filmmaker who was shot on March 13, 2022.

He was reportedly killed while fleeing Russian forces who opened fire on him when he stumbled onto their checkpoint in Ukraine.

According to witnesses, the filmmaker was travelling in a vehicle in Irpin, close outside Kyiv.

He was known to have formerly contributed to the New York Times.

According to Cliff Levy, New York Times’s deputy managing editor, stated that he was not on assignment for the publication.

Juan Arredondo, who was Renaud’s colleague told Italian journalist Annalisa Camilli they were detained at a checkpoint. He continued that.

“We crossed the first bridge. We were going to video more people leaving and we got into a car, someone volunteered to take us to the other bridge.

We passed through the checkpoint, and they began firing at us. As a result, the vehicle turned back and they continued firing.”

Arredondo was hurt in the incident and is being treated at a hospital in Kiev.
