On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, William F. “Coach Bill” Siderewicz, 87, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

From 1970 to 1999, Siderewicz served as the Artesians’ head coach at Martinsville, where his teams went unbeaten five times, won 11 South Central Conference titles, and advanced to two state semifinals. In 1993, he was admitted to the Indiana Football Hall of Honor.

The principal of Martinsville, Jeff Bell, was a student and a player for Coach Siderewicz. “The positive impact that Coach Siderewicz had on this community, our school, and mine and so many other young lives is immeasurable,” Bell said. We consider it a great blessing that in 1970, he and his family moved to Martinsville.

Tuesday night, Martinsville turned off the lights at the football field in tribute to Siderewicz, who amassed a career record of 234-84 at Martinsville and a total of 272-98. As a senior in high school, the 1954 Tech grad was an All-City football star.

Before being appointed head coach at Rensselaer, where he served for six seasons and helped the team to a 40-14 record, Siderewicz began his coaching tenure as an assistant at Peru from 1961 to 1964. He took over a struggling team at Martinsville that finished the season with a record of 0-9 and 46 points in a “basketball town.”

Father John Hall will preside over the funeral mass on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1709 East Harrison Street, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151. Visitation will be Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Costin Funeral Chapel 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and two hours at the church prior to Mass on Monday starting 9:00 a.m
