Billy Bob Thornton was raised in a multicultural home and was born on August 4, 1955, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. While his father, William Raymond “Billy Ray” Thornton, worked as a high school history teacher and basketball coach until his dying in August 1974, his mother, Virginia Roberta, asserted to have psychic powers.

Jimmy Don and John David, Billy Bob’s other two brothers, were also musicians.

Thornton lived a nomadic lifestyle as a child, dwelling in numerous locations across Arkansas, such as Alpine, Malvern, and Mount Holly. He was raised in a Methodist home and was raised in a small, no-frills shanty.

In 1973, after graduating from Malvern High School, he tried out for the Kansas City Royals to show off his baseball skills, but an injury caused the team to dismiss him.

Thornton also showcased his musical abilities by singing and playing the drums with the South African rock group Jack Hammer.
