Anya Taylor-Joy was born on 16 April 1996 in Miami, Florida, U.S.. She lived in Argentina when she was a baby where she only learned Spanish. At age 6, she relocated to London with her family. During her younger years, she danced ballet. She made her cinematic debut with an uncredited role in the movie Vampire Academy in 2014. That same year, she made her first TV appearance in an episode of Endeavour.
The following year, she played the lead in the acclaimed horror film The Witch. This marked her breakthrough, gaining her mainstream attention. She next played the lead in the movie Morgan, as well as starred in the films Barry and Split. She had also appeared in 5 episodes of the British series Atlantis.
