Angelo Mannino Motorcycle Accident: Angelo Mannino Died in Suzuki motorcycle collision
Isabella Floyd A Syracuse teen killed in a crash in Mattydale that also injured a passenger did not have a license to operate a motorcycle, a State Police spokesperson said.
Angelo D. Mannino, 16, died after his 2019 Suzuki motorcycle collided with the passenger side hood of a 2008 Buick Lacrosse in the intersection of LeMoyne Avenue and Factory Avenue around 8 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from State Police.
Mannino did not have a license or a permit to operate a motorcycle, said Trooper Jack Keller, a State Police spokesperson.
The teen had just received a learner’s permit on Oct. 14 to drive a car, Keller said. To drive, a permit holder must be accompanied by a driver 21 or older with a license to operate the vehicle the person is driving, according to state DMV regulations.
The motorcycle Mannino was riding also was not registered and had no plates, Keller said. It is not considered a legal motorcycle for the street, he said.
Mannino and his passenger Bradon R. Westcott, 14, were traveling south on LeMoyne Avenue and approaching Factory Avenue when the light turned red, troopers said. Mannino failed to stop and collided with the Buick, they said.
Both teens were thrown from the motorcycle, troopers said. They were wearing helmets, but the equipment did not meet Department of Transportation safety standards, Keller said.
The teens were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Mannino was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.
