The Curry family has been making waves in basketball for years with two active players. One of them, Seth Curry, is a promising basketball player who has competed professionally at different clubs in the lower and top division of the National Basketball Association. Although the NBA player has not reached the peak of his career, he has achieved impressive statistics. Having played college basketball at Liberty University and Duke University, Seth Curry now plays for the Dallas Mavericks since 2019.

Despite the short stints he has had at various NBA clubs, Curry’s career includes a few remarkable highlights. One of them is getting named in the National Basketball Association Development League All-Star two consecutive times. Seth Curry’s Professional Career Began At Santa Cruz Warriors

Seth Curry began his long-running professional career at the NBA D-League team, Santa Cruz Warriors, twenty-two years after he was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He joined the team after he went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft despite a modestly successful college career at Duke and Liberty University.

Before joined the Santa Cruz Warriors, he spent his preseason with his brother’s team, the Golden State Warriors. Failing to impress after six preseason games, he was acquired by the NBA Development League team.

In-between his time at the D-league Warriors, Seth had impressed enough to secure a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in December 2013. However, he only managed to play one game for the Grizzlies, making his NBA debut before the team waived and sent him back to the Warriors.

After a few weeks with the Warriors, he signed another short-term deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 10-day contract got him to play his second ever NBA game which was against the Houston Rockets. After the expiration of the agreement, he returned to the Warriors and finished the 2013-14 season in the D-leagues.

Seth Curry ended up playing a total of 38 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors, starting 37 of them with an average of 19.7 points per game. His performance over the season earned him a place in the Futures All-Star roster for the 2014 NBA D-league All-Star Game. Seth also got named in the NBA D-League All-Rookie First Team and All-NBA D-League Third Time.

A Second Stint In The NBA D-Leagues With Erie BayHawks Prepared him For The Topflight

Seth Curry got the second year in a pro league at Orlando Magic affiliated Erie BayHawks. After he left Santa Cruz Warriors, he joined the Orlando Magic for the Orlando Summer League. Although Seth also played for the Phoenix Suns at the Las Vegas Summer League, he returned to Orlando. He signed for the franchise with the expectation of moving to its D-league affiliate after the preseason.

After concluding the training camp on October 25, 2014, he moved to Erie BayHawk’s training camp for the D-league 2014-15 season. Like his time at Santa Cruz, he delivered an impressive performance for much of the season, and in March, signed a short-term contract with the Phoenix Suns.

His ten-day contract with the Suns gave Seth Curry his third and fourth NBA appearance. He returned to the Erie BayHawks and completed the season, playing 43 games and starting 42 of them. He bettered his Santa Cruz total with an average of 23.8 points per game.

Seth’s performance over the season also earned him another appearance in the Futures All-Star team. Other accolades include getting named in the All-NBA D-League First Team.

Seth’s NBA Career Began With The Sacramento Kings

At the end of the season, he joined the New Orleans Pelicans for the 2015 NBA Summer League. The younger Curry, showing he was ready for the topflight, delivered a host of performances throughout the tournament, averaging 24.3 points per game. He also earned a place in the All-NBA Summer League First Team.

In recognition of his growth, the Sacramento Kings signed him to a two-year $2 million deal. His first game as a full-fledged NBA player was against the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored two points and recorded one assist in a 132-114 win for his team.

Seth ended up playing 44 games for the Sacramento Kings, starting only nine games. He was a peripheral player for most of the season, with 15.7 minutes per game. Seth Curry returned 6.8 points per game, with his highest-scoring performance coming in a match against the Portland Trail Blazers. In his third start for the Kings, he scored a career-high 21 points in a 105-93 loss.

A Season At The Dallas Mavericks Remains His Best Individual Season Yet

Seth Curry grew further in the NBA in his second full season. After leaving the Kings, he signed a two-year $5.9 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. His first game for the team was against the Indiana Pacers. He started on the bench and spent 16 minutes on the court, dropping seven points and three rebounds.

His tally turned out to be a foreshadow of his scoring over the season. Seth broke his career-high point tally thrice, scoring 23 points in a game against the Lakers, 24 points against San Antonio Spurs, and an impressive 31 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Seth Curry played 70 games over the season, starting a career-high 42 games. He averaged his highest points per game yet with 12.8 points and managed 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Unfortunately, despite spending two years on the Dallas roster, he only managed to play one season.

He suffered an injury in October 2017 following a stress reaction of his left tibia. Four months after, the Mavericks ruled him entirely out of the season after he underwent surgery for the injury.

Seth Curry Reached His First NBA Playoffs With The Portland Trail Blazers

Following the expiration of his two-year deal with the Mavericks, he signed another two-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. Fully recovered from his injury, he became a significant member of the team’s run to the NBA Playoffs.

Over the season, he hit double figures several times, and his shooting from the 3-point line was particularly influential. So influential that he was selected to compete in the Three-Point Contest during the All-Star Weekend of the 2018-19 season.

Although he only started two games, he played 74, his highest in the NBA yet. Seth averaged 18.9 minutes and 7.9 points per game. At the Playoffs, he played all 16 games in the team’s run to the Western Conference Finals, averaging 5.6 points from 20.4 minutes per game. Seth lost in the finals to his brother’s team, Golden State Warriors, after getting swept in four games.

He Returned To The Dallas Mavericks On A Four-year Deal

After the Blazers refused to pick up the player for his second stint, Seth Curry returned to the Mavericks. He signed a four-year contract on July 10, 2019, and became a productive member of the team. He played 64 games for the team in the 2019-20 season, starting 25 of them.

At the Mavericks, he was a more active member of the team, averaging 24.6 minutes per game. More minutes also meant more points for Seth, who ended the season with 12.4 points per game. Over the season, he set a new personal point record with 37 points in a game against the Miami Heat.

Although the Mavericks lost, Seth Curry had 13-15 from shooting range and 8-9 from the three-point range. Unfortunately, despite averaging 12.8 points per game over six games, he could not help the Mavericks past the first round in the NBA Playoffs. His team lost 2-4 to the Los Angeles Clippers.

His Father Spent 16 Years In The NBA

Among NBA legends and icons, Dell Curry might be further down the elite list, but it is not for lack of longevity. After the Utah Jazz drafted him in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft, he went on to play for four additional teams over 16 years.

As if living up to his father’s legacy was not big enough, Seth Curry is the junior brother of Golden State Warriors superstar, Steph Curry. Unlike Seth, he has played his entire career in the NBA for the Oakland team since they drafted him in 2009 as a first-round seventh pick.

It is not only Sydel who has enriched the Curry family’s basketball ties through marriage. Seth is married to former professional volleyball player, Callie Rivers. She is the daughter of NBA legend and head coach, Doc Rivers, and sister of Houston Rockets player, Austin Rivers.

Callie played collegiate volleyball for the University of Florida Gators. She also played at a semi-professional level for Leonas de Ponce in Puerto Rico. Seth’s wife also had a national team career, having played for the USA Junior National A2 Team at the USA Junior Olympics Girls Volleyball tournament.

Unlike his brother, the path to the NBA has not been smooth for Seth Curry. Every game, he is having to justify his presence in the topflight, and since 2015, he has been making convincing arguments. In return, he has been earning significantly, growing his net worth to millionaire status.

His short term deals before 2015 earned him less than $500,000 combined. His biggest deal during this period earned him $150,000 and the lowest, $28,000.
